Verizon & Alltel Deal Approved

Today the FTC approved Verizon's plan to buy out Alltel and regain the position of nation's largest cellular company. The FTC, the FCC and the Justice Department all approved the deal, finding no substantive antitrust issues.
Valued at $5.9 billion but bringing $22.2 billion in debt to the deal, Alltel will add 13.7 million customers to Verizon's hand, totalling 84.5 million in thrall to the big V. The move also brings CDMA networks to the forefront, however briefly - the changeover to 4G will even that playing field.
With AT&T and the iPhone at large, it's hard for any accusations of monopoly to stick.
