From GayGamer: $49.99 Xbox 360 HD-DVD Player, Going Once...

When I saw this info up on Rick Broida's Cheapskate, I thought: "This is dumb. I should post it!" Which is more or less what Broida himself admitted. But after the initial rush of finding something silly on the techwebs, I came to realize that while it's a total non-starter, Frys.com's $49.99 deal on the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player is actually a pretty sweet self-contained, self-limiting purchase.
For those of us who don't already own any HD DVDs (and thus, presumably, no HD DVD player) but do own an Xbox 360, $49.99 is a good buy for what you get: the now-obsolete HD DVD player, of course, as well as three HD DVDs: Seasons One of both Battlestar Galactica and Heroes, as well as King Kong, which is a treat in any high-def format.
The player also upscales regular DVDs and adds a USB port to your Xbox, not to mention that it comes with a Media Center remote.
Then there are the 400 or so HD DVDs out there that must be going for less than dirt cheap, if you're so inclined. So while Microsoft's retail partners are ditching dead inventory, why not take advantage of a little homebrew low-cost shopping spree? Well, I'd tell you why not - but that's another topic entirely.

3D iPhone glasses. Why?
You totally forgot to mention that you can use this to play regular DVDs. DVDs are more stressful on the 360's built in drive then a game is because it is constantly reading data from the disc, a game loads and largely leaves the drive alone. This could save the internal drive from degrading more rapidly if you watch a lot of DVDs.
