Sony Misplaces $1.1 Billion, Doesn't Know Where It Went

Sony.jpg

If I lost $1.1 Billion, I'd be a little pissed. I'd be even more miffed if at the same time I lost that money, i had originally planned to make $2.2 Billion. I'd be so upset I'd figure out a way to sell myself... oh, you know what? That analogy just doesn't work as well here...hmmm.

What I meant was Sony is set to loose a boatload of money. I don't care who you are, $1.1 Billion is a lot of cash. Even for Oprah. Rumors have been floating around that Sony will soon be cutting a whole division free in the next month, and speculation has been wild about which department will go.

I personally wouldn't be too sad to see their retail arm, Sony Style, go away. I hate to be the one to tell you Sony, but you're not Apple. You can't get away with slapping an additional $500-$1000 on every price tag just because it's in your store. And their TV division could use an overhaul. Not that they don't have great sets, but when Vizio comes along and offers solid quality for a drastically lower price, combine that with the economic turmoil and people just aren't looking for top of the line anymore.

Other rumors have pointed to the Playstation line, which seems like a possibility to me as well. Not the PS3 or whatnot, but probably the PSP. That thing seems like it's just bleeding money right now, but considering the PS3 isn't fairing well either, the prospects for the future of Sony consoles looks bleak. Of course, we'll have to wait and see, but a $1.1 Billion loss that results in a drop in stock prices is never a good thing.

Man, wouldn't it be ironic if Sony dropped Blu-Ray especially after all the trouble they went through to obliterate HD-DVD?

Ah, Sony. You used to be "the one and only."

I've actually heard that rumor too. I suppose it's not picking up as fast as they'd hoped, but this economy will do that to a tech firm
