Italy Proposes Facebook Block

Italian Senator Gianpiero D'Alia has introduced a law to Italy's Interior Ministry that would block access to sites like Facebook in the event that they are used to incite or justify criminal behavior. D'Alia's law is a reaction to Facebook groups in honor of Sicilian mafiosos Bernardo Provenzano and Salvatore Riina - and the coded messages those groups were suspected of sending to the mob bosses.
D'Alia wants sites like Facebook to police themselves against user-generated content that promotes crime:
"It's indecent that Facebook said that it won't allow pictures of mothers breastfeeding while there are no rules about removing groups of delinquents," D'Alia said on Wednesday.
If approved by the Chamber of Deputies, D'Alia's law will allow the Interior Ministry to order ISPs to block sites with proven criminal content, and make it illegal to encourage crime over the net. Violators could face up to five years in prison.
