iTunes Pass Debuts, Sorta

Picture 20.png

iTunes has just launched a new feature called 'iTunes Pass,' something like a paid RSS feed for your favorite musician that automatically downloads new material from the iTunes store as it becomes available. We're talking DRM-free albums, songs, videos, etc. Some content may be exclusive to Pass customers, and Apple will email you whenever something new drops on your pass.

At the moment the only available Pass is for Depeche Mode, a statement that functions as its own punchline. Especially when you see the $18.99 price tag, which may make more than one iTunes customer say "Pass" to the Pass.

it was likely a concession to the recording studios in return for dropping DRM rather than something Apple places any real value in.

After all the whole idea about the itunes store is you don't have to purchase "content bundles" as dictated by some random music executive.
